November 29

Thursday evening on the Portland Campus join fellow students, staff and faculty to share a complimentary meal together at the Free Family Dinner, starting at 5:00 p.m. in the University Events Room, 7th Floor Glickman Library.

End November with a big band! Enjoy a diverse evening with the 17 piece University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Christopher Oberholtzer, 7:30 p.m., Corthell Concert Hall, on the Gorham Campus.

On Friday, see “Rain in a Dry Land” a film documenting the immigrant refugee experience followed by discussion, 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., in Room 133 Wishcamper.

Mariners College Rivalry promoGo show your Husky Pride against the UNE Nor'Easters, 7:15 p.m., at College Rivalry Night at the Maine Mariners hockey game. Both schools will compete throughout the game to prove that they have the most school spirit. Wear USM gear, cheer on our new local hockey team, and have fun!

In Gorham that evening, 8:00 p.m. in Corthell Concert Hall, catch the last Faculty Concert Series featuring Gary Wittner, on guitar, and the release of his new cd, “Too Modern For Me.”

Saturday night, Daniel Sonenberg and the USM Composers Ensemble present a free concert of original works, "A World of Possibilities," at 8:00 p.m., Corthell Concert Hall, on the Gorham Campus. Don’t forget to check the School of Music calendar for all student recitals.

Reminder! The ongoing clothing drive continues at LAC, Spread the Warmth, through December 3. Donations of winter gear -coats, hats, scarves, gloves, boots, and blankets - are needed for all ages.

Wednesday evening, at 5:30 p.m., don’t miss the rescheduled USM Convocation screening of “Dawnland” at Hannaford Hall on the Portland Campus. The special evening includes a live concert and storytelling, as well as an MPBN moderated discussion with the filmmakers.

There is an evening full of basketball to cheer on as well that evening, bookmark the full Huskies Athletics schedule.


December 6 

Join USM Food Studies Thursday, for a film screening of “Living the Change, 12:00 Noon to 2:30 p.m., 303 Payson Smith, on the Portland Campus.

Later that evening the Southworth Planetarium hosts the Southern Maine Astronomers Open House, 7:00 p.m to 10:00 p.m., or  learn the astronomy of holiday season traditions this month at Season of Light.”

Theatre posterStarting Thursday eve, 7:30 p.m., and running through 12/9, see  “A Winter Idyll...with Spring in Sight,” at Russell Hall, on the Gorham Campus. This evening of dance and spoken word, accompanied by live and recorded music, will explore the magic of the winter months and the promise of the returning Spring.
