While everyone hits pause for Spring Break, be sure to Save the Date for some upcoming events —
- March 31: come hear the USM Concert Band: Applause for Paws concert. And Submit a picture of your own rescue pet to be included in a slideshow as part of the performance! Photos are due 3/24.
- April 3: "Memory, Trauma, and the Generations of Genocide," a special Convocation event during the month of Genocide Commemorations for the Armenian, Jewish, Cambodian, and Rwandan communities.
- April 12: 10th Annual Husky Day of Service, register today! Volunteer sites this year focus on: Public Health and Housing, Advocacy and Human Rights, Environment, Education and Youth Development, Arts and Culture
If you’re not away for break — come on out to Gorham on Saturday 3/23 and cheer on the Men’s Lacrosse team as they battle Mass. Maritime!
On Monday, attend the rescheduled talk with Dr. Sarah Rose Cavanaugh at the CCD Author Insights Series “Be the Spark: Performance, Presence, and Relationships,” in the University Events Room, 7th Floor Glickman Library, on the Portland Campus. The welcome reception begins at 12:15 p.m., and the lecture at 1:00 p.m.
Join the Women and Gender Studies Program Tuesday evening for their annual awards ceremony and reception in the Abromson Atrium, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a keynote lecture at 7 p.m. by Dr. Anne Fausto-Sterling: "Gender/Sex, Sexual Orientation and Identity are in the Body: How Did They Get There?"
Also in Portland that evening, 7:30 p.m. at Williston-Immanuel United Church, the USM Chamber Singers will present their Spring concert, Dr. Nicolás Alberto Dosman conducting. All proceeds will support the USM Chamber Singers on their Spring 2019 tour to Vietnam; their first trip to Asia and their first international festival experience with other choirs.
On Wednesday evening the University of Maine School of Law hosts the 2019 Justice For Women Lecture taking place on at the Abromson Community Education Center. This year features Maria Luisa Aguilar Rodriguez, an International Advocacy Officer at the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center, leading a discussion on "The Human Rights Crisis in Mexico: Origins, Impacts, Opportunities." Reception at 5:30 p.m., lecture to follow at 7:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public; registration is required.
Also Wednesday evening, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., USM's American Marketing Association is hosting a professional dinner in partnership with the Career and Employment Hub. This event, sponsored by WEX, is free for all USM undergrad students and includes a mocktail reception, networking, dinner, and a professional panel on workforce topics.
Thursday evening, 7:30 p.m., the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of USM SoM faculty Robert Lehmann, will present their spring concert at Westbrook Performing Arts Center and feature the head of voice studies at USM, Malinda Haslett, soprano.
