Opening Reception: Student Juried Exhibition
*Rescheduled to March 22
About 40 student art works of various media will be highlighted in the annual Student Juried Exhibition at the USM Art Gallery on the Gorham Campus. Save the new date for the Opening Reception at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, with remarks and awards at 6:15 p.m. The exhibition runs March 9 - April 1. Selected works will then travel to the AREA Gallery in the Portland’s Woodbury Campus Center and be on display from April 5 to May 1.
Women’s History Month Keynote
*Rescheduled to April 13
Please note the new date for this event recognizing International Women’s Day. Feminist, activist and scholar Loretta Ross will discuss “Reproductive Justice in the Age of Trump” at a free lecture Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at Hannaford Hall, in the Abromson Building on the Portland campus. Ross was a co-founder and the National Coordinator of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective from 2005-2012. Online registration is requested, reception at 6:30 p.m. This event is part of the year-long Gloria S. Duclos Convocation on race and participatory democracy.
USM LAC Community Clinic Grand Opening
Join the Master of Occupational Therapy faculty and students for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the USM LAC Community Clinic from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m at the Lewiston Auburn campus, Rooms 185 and 187. The USM LAC Community Clinic offers pro-bono occupational therapy services to community members referred by their physician. All community members, students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend and congratulate the team for the grand opening of this exciting new venture!
Catch some of the Maine Jewish Film Festival over Spring Break at Luther Bonney Hall on the Portland Campus starting Sunday, March 11, 1:00 p.m. with the film: Uploading_Holocaust. The Maine Jewish Film Festival (MJFF) will feature thirty films from around the world and present a dynamic week of parties, guests and special events. This year’s extensive selection comprises an engaging collection of feature-length and short films – dramas, comedies, and documentaries. The festival takes place March 10 - 18 in various locations, check out the full calendar.
Industrial Maine: Our Other Landscape
Painter Janice L. Moore is the guest curator for an exhibition at the Atrium Gallery at the Lewiston Auburn Campus. This group show of 2D and 3D Art is inspired by her longtime interest in Maine's work landscapes and how they have shaped us both physically and culturally. Save the date for the Opening Reception on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
No plans for break? No problem! Relax into the cosmos at at the Southworth Planetarium with one of these ongoing events: Astronomy: 3000 Years of Stargazing, Astronomy Art: Paint the Sky and Sculpt the Stars, Journey to a Billion Suns
USM's Luci Benedict to talk 'Chemistry of Brewing'
Luci Benedict, associate professor of Chemistry at the University of Southern Maine, will present a talk on the 'Chemistry of Brewing' on Wednesday, March 14, at Portland's Novare Res Bier Café. The talk is the first in a series of “It STEMs From Beer” lectures hosted by the establishment on various topics related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The event takes place at Novare Res, 4 Canal Plaza, Portland, from 6-7 p.m.
