Since 2007 Matt Skehan has been the Director of the Waterville Parks and Recreation Department, Waterville Maine. The Parks Department oversees dozens of programs, facilities and community events for residents and visitors to Central Maine. Prior to his work in Waterville, Matt worked for Portland Parks and Recreation and Portland Public Schools, overseeing and initiating a variety of health and wellness programs.
Matt has over 20 years professional experience in the Recreation and Leisure field. He is passionate about his work and sees every day the benefits it provides to the community and society.
Matt sits on many boards and committees including the municipal safety and wellness committee, Mid Maine Technical School outdoor recreation board, Maine Recreation and Park Association, and the National Recreation and Park Association. He was the City of Waterville’s employee of the year in 2015.
In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his family. His two young daughters are very active in sports and extra-curricular activities. He also enjoys being active himself hiking, biking and traveling.
