PEER MENTORS . . .
. . . are selected for their engagement in the Russell Scholars community and USM campus life.
They are matched to a small group of incoming first-year students in the program, and they keep in touch with these new students through the fall semester.
Peer Mentors host pizza study breaks, lead a Lab session, attend department meetings, contribute to our newsletter, and serve as ambassadors of our values: community, connection, collaboration. They develop close relationships with faculty mentors and gain leadership experience - as well as new friends! During this unusual year of more remote learning, they are hosing special "Dinners With Friends," an occasion to Zoom together at dinner time on three occasions in the fall semester as a small group of peers. They help new students meet each other, make friends, find study buddies, and feel at home in the community. No matter where you are studying from this year, the Mentors are eager to connect with you.

Hey everyone! My name is JORDANNA FORD. I’m a senior Psychology major with a minor in Education...and big hopes to go to med school next year! Being a Russell Scholar coming into freshman year three years ago was probably the best decision I could’ve made, and I’m happy to help make that transition to college easier for you all as well. Last spring and this fall I have been participating in the Russell Scholars service-learning partnership with Gateway Community Services, for which I tutor students in English, Biology, and Algebra. I grew up in a small town in New York called Westtown, living on my family farm with 1,100 cows. Some things I love to do are going to the beach, adventuring, and lately it’s also been baking! Looking forward to getting to know you all and helping you have a great year!

Hey guys, my name is CODY DAIGNEAULT. I am a junior at USM and I am originally from China, Maine. I have been a part of the Russell Scholars program my entire college career. This year I will be off campus in an Old Orchard with a few of my teammates from lacrosse which I’m really excited about! I am majoring in Business Management with a minor in Leadership, and as a lot of students take classes similar to mine feel free to ask me anything that might help you succeed. I am also around to talk if you ever need to talk about anything that might help you feel more comfortable about your college experience! I love meeting new people, so feel free to say hello. As this is your first year here, I think you will love the things this school has to offer, and you might even love the community even more!
