USM Scholarships

Ethel Noyes Mortensen Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established at the University of Southern Maine Foundation in 2006, with proceeds from the Estate of Donald N. Mortensen. The Fund is named for Mr. Mortensen's mother Ethel, who was a nurse and 1899 graduate of Deering High School (DHS). The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support for students in the School of Nursing (SON). The USM School of Nursing offers a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BS) degree.

Eligible students must be admitted to or enrolled in the School of Nursing BS program. Preference will be given first to graduating students from Deering High School entering USM, second to students currently enrolled who were DHS graduates, third to transfer students who were DHS graduates and then to first year students from other high schools.
