James V. Sullivan Scholarship


The James V. Sullivan Scholarship was established at the University of Southern Maine in 1991 by the family and friends of Dr. James V. Sullivan, who is professor emeritus and former chairperson of the Recreation and Leisure Studies Department.


Eligible students must be a declared major in Recreation and Leisure Studies. Must be in good academic standing, have demonstrated involvement in the university/community, and plan to pursue a career in the Leisure Studies/Therapeutic Recreation field.

An essay that addresses the following;

  • University and community involvement/service
  • Career goals (where and with what population/group(s) you would like to work with)

Two letters of support from individuals other than Recreation and Leisure Studies faculty members must accompany the application.
