Mary Purkis and Horton P. Gilman Scholarship

Description

This scholarship was established in 1984 in memory of Mary Purkis Gilman. The scholarship was created by friends and family in recognition of her commitment to American business and to those individuals entering business as a career. In 1996, the scholarship was renamed to honor Horton Gilman as well, who was a faithful friend and loyal supporter of the School of Business. The recipient must embody the free enterprise spirit and have demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activity, work, or community service.

Eligibility

Must have earned at  least 84 credits, and not more than 115 credits by the end of the fall semester in which the scholarship is awarded; Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or better required; Enrolled in a minimum of 6 USM credits when funds are received; Will graduate no sooner than December of the academic year funds are received; Normally completes at least 12 credits per year; Involved in extracurricular activities, work, or community activities.

How to Apply

Students must complete a School of Business scholarship application and essay. Essay topic:  Describe your free enterprise spirit; include examples of your involvement in extracurricular activities, work, or community participation.

How to Renew

Scholarship is not renewable.
