The Chancellor’s Scholarship for Adult Achievement


The Chancellor's Scholarship for Adult Achievement was established in 2023 by the University of Maine System to support adult learners seeking a first Bachelor's degree.  This scholarship is for students newly admitted to the University of Southern Maine (USM). Applicants must meet all criteria to be considered.


Eligible Students are:
  • Newly admitted or readmitted to USM for the Summer or Fall 2024 semester;
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester;
  • Maine Residents;
  • Demonstrate financial need on the FAFSA;
  • Have not attended within the University of Maine System for at least two semesters;
  • Pursuing a first Bachelor's degree;
  • Admitted to a degree-seeking program at the University of Southern Maine;
  • Adult Learners as defined below.
Adult learners are students who:
  •  are at least 24 years old,
  • At least 21 years old, independent on the FAFSA, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Work full-time (35 hours per week or more), or
  • Have dependents other than a spouse, or
  • Have chosen to delay enrollment in college after high school for a reason other than a gap-year activity.

If additional years of funding are available, students may re-apply each year.
Eligible students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and make Satisfactory Academic Progress  for continued eligibility.
