In academics, a major indicator of quality is professional accreditation. The USM School of Education and Human Development is committed to meeting the highest professional standards. The School's Teacher Preparation, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Psychology programs have all sought, and received, this mark of distinction.
The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Southern Maine is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation. CAEP covers the following programs: Art Education; Music Education; and the Teacher Education Programs (undergraduate pathways and ETEP). The period of approval is from April 2015 through June 2022.
The mental health counseling and school counseling specialties are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education programs (CACREP). The period of accreditation is from July 2016 to October 2023.
The rehabilitation counseling program holds accreditation from the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). The period of accreditation is from 2016 to 2021.
The school psychology program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
