Extended Teacher Education Program (ETEP) cohort leader since 1999. She has taught seminars and internships in instructional planning, classroom management, assessment, educational philosophy, and school organization along with EDU 646/647 Planning and Assessment for Proficiency Based Learning. She has also taught graduate courses EDU 624 Schools and Society; EDU 651 Instructional Strategies; EDU 652 Curriculum Design and undergraduate courses in education.
As a teacher and teacher educator, I have worked in schools in New York City, Los Angeles, rural Arkansas, Houston, and currently Portland and Westbrook. I am fascinated by the possibilities of various educational settings having attended Montessori school, public magnet high school now recognized as an Expeditionary Learning School and taught with Outward Bound, The Boston Children’s Museum, and summer camps.
I am professionally fascinated by the demographic and technological changes in our society and the opportunities these create for schools. My teaching goal is to help interns build a foundation for professional lives that are rich in learning, inquiry, and the joy of watching children learn.
Personally, I am the proud mama of two young daughters. My husband and I enjoy sharing our love of the outdoors with our daughters and our daily commitment to creating a better world in which they will grow.

Current Research and Publications
Dr. Ross is an active member of the Scholars Strategy Network providing research to improve policy and enhance democracy. Her research is focused on high quality teacher preparation and ensuring access for underrepresented teaching candidates. Dr. Ross is also involved in community action research to improve educational opportunities and attainment through the Westbrook Children’s Project. She is the faculty coordinator of Equity and Excellence in Maine Schools, a Maine based clearinghouse of resources and supports for ensuring access to high quality education for all students.
Areas of Scholarship
I am very privileged to work with the Newcomer ETEP program to help create access and support for recent immigrants to become certified teachers in the United States. I continue to learn a lot about other countries, international models of education, various cultural learning styles, and gain insight into the assumptions and limitations of our current schooling systems.
