Maine Department of Education
The USM Psy.D. Program is currently accredited by the Maine Department of Education to prepare graduates who will be eligible for Maine’s 092 educator certificate as a School Psychologist-Doctoral. This accreditation is valid through August 2015.
Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards
The USM Psy.D. Program submitted an application to the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) in January 2013 to become a designated doctoral program on the National Register of Health Service Psychologists (NRHSP). The application is currently under review and a decision is expected by 1 May 2013.
American Psychological Association
The USM Psy.D. Program submitted an accreditation self-study to the American Psychological Association (APA) in May 2009. On 17 August 2009 the Program received detailed feedback from APA indicating that we were not yet ready for a site visit. After consulting with APA, the program faculty decided to withdraw the application and make needed program changes. Please remember that no program is APA accredited until a self-study, site visit team, and the APA Council on Accreditation approves the program. That means our program remains non-accredited by APA at this time.
Please know that we remain interested in obtaining APA accreditation as soon as possible. We made revisions to our program of study based on feedback from APA and from a consultant who is very familiar with APA accreditation standards and processes. At the current time the number of full-time tenure-track faculty in the Psy.D. Program prevent us from submitting a new application to APA in the foreseable future. We hope to submit a new application as soon as resources permit. If you have any questions concerning this process, please contact us and we will do our best to explain and clarify things.
