What if you take a flexible graduate program model, hire a world-class faculty of writer/teachers, and encourage students to personalize their curriculum?
At Stonecoast, the result is magic. In just ten years Stonecoast has become one of the nation's most diverse, rigorous, and influential low-residency MFA programs. Students come from across the country and around the world, to join a community of established and emerging writers.
Each semester begins with a stimulating ten-day residency on the coast of Maine. Students also have the opportunity to study in Ireland. During the semester, our award-winning faculty guide Stonecoast students in intensive one-on-one tutorials in creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and popular fiction, with possibilities for elective work in other areas including scriptwriting, translation, and cross-genre. Monthly packets encompass original writing, revision, and critical essays and annotations as well as optional interdisciplinary research and internships in teaching, publishing, and community service/social justice. Stonecoast's supportive, enlightened community helps you discover your independent voice while offering you the tools to communicate to a wide readership.
