Join Maine poets Samaa Abdurraqib, Ben Boegehold, Cate Marvin, Mihku Paul and Maya Williams in extending National Poetry Month (an April celebration) into the sunshine of May! The University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast Low-Residency Creative Writing Program is excited to situate this WISE (Writing for Inclusion and Social Justice) initiative event in the vibrant, public space that is Congress Square Park. This outdoor reading is designed to bring the Portland community together around poetry, to celebrate the work of a variety of local poets, and to explore the words that run through us all.
UPDATE 5/3: Due to patchy weather in Portland, we are changing the date of Poets on the Square to Monday, May 17th at 6pm. We are thrilled to announce that on that date, Friends of Casco Bay will be partnering with us to create a community poem.
Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
