"From Blank Page To Stage"
A Playwriting Workshop focusing on how to begin writing a play. Everybody has stories they want to tell but when confronted with the blank page have no idea where to start. This workshop will incorporate writing exercises, discussion of some of the elements of a good play (such as dialogue, character, motive, setting), and strategies with the aim of making those first few lines easier to write. Whether you’ve yet to write your first play or have several under your belt, the workshop is aimed at anybody who’s ever stared at that blank page and wanted to fill it.
Please read two modern plays (plays written after 1950). Suggested playwrights include: Sarah Ruhl, Carol Churchill, Marsha Norman, Tony Kushner, Rajiv Joseph, Susan-Lori Parks, Lorraine Hansberry, Tracy Letts, Martin McDonagh, Paula Vogel, Annie Baker, David Mamet, Bruce Norris, Sam Shepard, David Hare, Arthur Miller, etc.
These are all great but really any playwright or play that perks your interest. I just want you to see the formats and start thinking of how words on the stage can be different than words on the page.
