Social Service Search: www.211maine.org  or dial 211 ”… [211 is] an efficient and effective response to the growing complexities and needs in health, social economic and human services. The state of Maine has over 300 hotlines and help lines and thousands of programs offering all types of health and human services. Trying to find the right phone number or service that provides help for your specific need can be overwhelming and frustrating. Having an easy-to-remember universal number and website for non-emergency help is critical. People can call 2-1-1 to find or give help.”

-Low income housing/Section 8

(Both these lists have possible waiting lists for assistance, apply for everything!)

What I am finding with low income housing and section 8 is that there are limited resources, and there is an extensive waiting list. It is not ideal for immediate assistance.

The following link is a .pdf that contains information about subsidized housing, Maine rental laws and other useful notes about housing resources. http://www.mainehousing.org/docs/rental/rental-housing-guide.pdf?sfvrsn=38

Information about Unemployment, go to this link: http://www.maine.gov/labor/unemployment/benefits.html

“When an employee files a claim for unemployment benefits, a claim record is established in the benefits computer system. The record of the wages paid is used to calculate the claimant's monetary eligibility. This includes both the individual's Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA) and Maximum Benefits Amount (MBA). Redeterminations to the wages can be made if any of the records are incorrect or incomplete. If any of the individual's wages were earned in another state, a combined wage claim can be filed which will result in those wages being transferred to Maine. Prior to paying these monetary amounts, however, the bureau must also determine if the claimant meets all non-monetary eligibility requirements:

1.The separation from employment must not be the claimant's fault.

2.The claimant must be able to work and actively seeking employment.

3.The claimant must submit a weekly claim form for each week of unemployment benefits.”
