The University of Southern Maine's Portland and Gorham campuses have a new ride -- Greater Portland METRO's new Husky Line! The Husky Line offers increased service, access to METRO's other routes in the region, lots of great new perks (free Wi-Fi and more), and it will help USM meet its sustainability goals.

The Office of Sustainability works tirelessly each day of the year to mitigate the impact the University of Southern Maine has on the environment. However, each April, the Office takes part in celebrating the Earth by hosting several events throughout the month.

For the seventh time in four years, the federal Environmental Protection Agency has honored the University of Southern Maine's efforts to reduce and reuse waste at its campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston.
Maine universities' positive report on environmental sustainability noted by USM
Just in time for Earth Day 2017, a sustainability report was recently issued by the University of Maine System for its seven public universities, including the University of Southern Maine. Among the positive news is the System's creation of a new investment policy linked to sustainability. USM's own sustainability leader Aaron Witham and EcoRep Asia DiBenedetti offer their thoughts on creating a sustainable future.
USM celebrates Earth Day this weekend and all year long with events and initiatives
The University of Southern Maine will host a variety of events to celebrate Earth day this year, including the 5th annual Community Electronic Waste Recycling Day, the Great Maine Bike Swap and an Earth Day panel discussion.

USM honored with 2016 Environmental Protection Agency award for food recovery
For the fifth time in three years, the federal Environmental Protection Agency has honored USM's efforts to both reduce its food waste and wisely use the waste that remains. In 2015, USM recovered 5.5 tons more food than it did the previous year. And before the semester ended, the 2016 numbers seemed poised to break last year's record total of 71.3 tons of recovered food, food that was then composted or sent to nearby farms as animal feed.
