Sustainability at USM

Ride the METRO for Free to Fun Events

March 11, 2019 to March 17, 2019
Riding the METRO is free with a USM ID. Event costs vary.

Starting this week, the Office of Sustainability will be featuring off-campus events around Portland and provide directions how to get there using public transit. For this week, we are featuring the Portland Winter Farmers Market, the Portland Museum of Art and critically acclaimed classic rock group America’s 50th anniversary tour live at Aura. If you have ever wanted a weekend full of fresh local food, art and classic rock, then this is surely for you.

  • To get to the Portland Museum of Art, get on the Husky line going inbound from whatever campus you are on and take the Husky line to the Pulse in downtown Portland. Get off at the Pulse and walk up the street towards Congress St., then turn right onto Congress St. You can reverse these directions to get back to campus. The museum is free on Friday nights from 4-8 and is only $15 with a student ID.
  • To get to the Winter Farmers Market, get on the Husky line going inbound from whatever campus you are on and take the Husky line to the Pulse in downtown Portland. Get off at the Pulse, then take route 9a to the Maine Girls Academy, where the farmers market is being held. You can download the transit app to see what stop is the closest. The farmer’s market is running from 9am to 1pm on Saturday. For both of these steps you can reverse these directions to get back to campus.
  • To get to the concert at Aura on Saturday the 16th, get on the Husky Line and ride to USM Portland campus. Then, get off and walk to Forest Ave and get on the Route 2 bus from the bus stop that is on the USM side of Forest Ave. You will take the route into downtown Portland and get off on the stop right before the intersection of Congress St and Center St. This also puts you very close to Port City Music Hall as well. To get home, reverse the directions if the line is still running, but it is important to remember that by the time the show gets out it may be late enough that you may have to take an Uber, Lyft or taxi or get a ride back home.
