The evening includes a keynote address by Dr. David Wagner and co-author Jennifer Barton Gilman speaking on their published book Confronting Homelessness: Poverty, Politics, and the Failure of Social Policy; a reading by 2011 Maine Poet Laureate Bruce Spang; an awards ceremony honoring program alumni/ae, field supervisors, and community partners who have made a difference; and presentations from leaders in the field, including:
- Mark Swann, Executive Director, Preble Street
- Susan Dore Lamb, Executive Director, NASW Maine
- Justin Alfond, Senator, Maine State Senate
The evening's honors will include:

The University of Southern Maine’s School of Social Work is committed to educating culturally competent, generalist social-work practitioners prepared for multi-level, strengths-based practice that values the centrality of community in enhancing the well-being of diverse individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
The School of Social Work offers a BA in Social Work, as well as a Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Applications for the MSW program are due by October 15, 2012.
