School of Social Work

MSW Low Residency Program

The School of Social Work is pleased to announce a call for applications for the part-time, low-residency online MSW program option, due October 15, 2021. Our current pilot cohort will be graduating in May 2022, and our new cohort will begin classes in May 2022, completing their degrees in May 2025.

Students in the low-residency online MSW cohort option will complete 2 courses each semester over the summer, fall and spring semesters completing the program in 3 years. Courses will be completed primarily online, with 2-3 face-to-face Friday meetings per semester on USM’s Portland campus. Students will be informed of the Friday dates prior to the beginning of each semester for planning purposes.

The program curriculum is identical to the regular MSW program and is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The only difference between the two options is the program pace and the delivery format for the content, as described above. Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence, which is included on this page under “MSW Low-Residency course sequence”

The program is being led by USM School of Social Work, MSW Coordinator & Assistant Professor Dorothea Ivey, Ph.D. If there are any questions, please be in touch with Dr. Dorothea Ivey at dorothea.ivey@maine.edu
