Tuition reduction announced for Connecticut, Rhode Island students in BA in Tourism and Hospitality program

Starting in spring 2013, Connecticut and Rhode Island students enrolled in the BA in Tourism & Hospitality at USM will qualify for reduced tuition rates under the New England Regional Student Program (RSP), also known as the "Tuition Break" program. This program, run by the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE), offers discounted tuition rates for students enrolled in public university or college majors in New England states that are not offered in their own home states.

The program was started in 1957 and currently applies to over 700 academic programs at 82 public institutions. According to the NEBHE website, a full-time RSP student received an average tuition break of $6,900 in the 2011-12 academic year. For more information on eligibility and other questions, see the NEBHE RSP website or contact the USM Admissions Office at 207-780-5670.

The Tourism & Hospitality program welcomes students from throughout New England and beyond to apply. Maine is not just a great place to live and visit, but a terrific place to earn an education in the travel and tourism industry, with extensive work and internship opportunities and the chance to explore all that "Vacationland" has to offer.

By spring 2013, we also expect to offer our first online courses in the Tourism & Hospitality program, leading eventually to a fully online track through the major. This will help students from outside the region take advantage of this new program while remaining connected to work and family elsewhere.
