Bridge Program

What is the USM Summer Bridge Program?

The Summer Bridge Program is offered by the University of Southern Maine and TRIO Student Support Services to ensure the success of newly admitted USM students.  It includes opportunities to become familiar with USM’s campuses and resources, increase your Math and English skills, and make new friends who can share your college experience.  TRIO Student Support Services will provide ongoing college coaching and academic support throughout your time at USM, working closely with you to ensure your successful college graduation. 

What will the USM Bridge Program Offer You?

  • $250 stipend for completing the entire program
  • Earn 2 USM college credits at no cost (over $500 value)
  • Textbook and fees are provided at no cost (over $170 value)
  • Daily lunches at no cost
  • Free METRO bus pass (if needed for transportation)
  • New experiences, learning, confidence, friends, and mentors

Who can participate?

Participants must meet the following criteria:

1.  Attending USM this fall 2017 as a matriculated degree seeking student working toward first bachelor’s degree
2. Must be eligible to apply for Federal financial aid as an eligible US citzen or noncitizen

Meet at least ONE of the eligibility below:

1. Neither parent graduated from a four-year college OR
2. Meet government income guidelines based on taxable income OR
3. Have a documented physical, medical, psychological, or learning disability

Math SAT criteria:

1. New Math SAT score below 570 from March 2016 & on OR
2. Old Math SAT score below 550 from prior to March 2016

Critical Reading SAT criteria:

1. New Evidence-Based Reading and Writing SAT score below 560 from March 2016 & on OR
2. Old Critical Reading SAT score below 550 from prior to March 2016

 

Preferred, but not required:

Graduated from Casco Bay, Deering or Portland High Schools.
