Web Content Management System Update -- April 26, 2011

Dear Colleagues,

We are less than one month from the launch of the Web CMS.  Since we began the 90-minute Group Training Sessions, over 40? Site Administrators/Owners and Web Publishers have received training. These are one-on-one workshops to introduce you to the look and feel of your Web CMS site, login procedures, and the creation of new pages. You will leave with the tools and knowledge so that you may be able then begin the migration of content into your new Web CMS site.

This past week, some of the areas who received training included:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Lewiston-Auburn College
  • The Wise Laboratory of Environmental and Genetic Toxicology
  • Office of Sponsored Programs
  • Professional and Continuing Education
  • Office of International Programs
  • School of Education and Human Development
  • USM Core Curriculum
  • Bioethics Project
  • Communication and Media Studies Department
  • Department of Residential Life and Resident Education
  • Maine Center for Business and Economic Research
  • Student Success
  • University Environmental Health and Safety Office
  • The Wise Laboratory of Environmental and Genetic Toxicology

During the trainings several questions have arisen over the topic of images for your site landing page. Each CMS site will include a default image for its landing page. In addition, Marketing will have a repository of images available that departments and areas will be able to access by early May. You may also choose to use your own images as long as it fits in the dimensions of 550x244 pixels at 72 ppi. The current development of a USM Web Style Guide will later serve to articulate image usage and copyright issues.

Quick reminders, have you...

  •  met with Marcus or Ann for final editing of your site content?
  • indicated to Marcus or Ann that you are ready to receive CMS training?
  • Once this is done, you will receive an email invitation to a CMS training with further information and instructions about your Web CMS site setup.

The first launch of the new Web CMS will occur approximately May 19. As such, we are working with several deadlines in which everyone’s cooperation is needed to help meet the timelines established as this project progresses.

Thank you for your cooperation and help with this project.
