Women and Gender Studies Program

Congratulations to WGS student, Reilly Sullivan, on her UROP funding for 2017-2018

Women & Gender Studies and English student, Reilly Sullivan, has received UROP funding for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) awards funding to diverse areas of undergraduate student research and creative activities.

Reilly's research examines the life and literary works of African-American writer Alice-Dunbar Nelson in relation to concepts of region and place; particularly, the representation of landscapes as a locus for the articulation of womanly desires and same-sex erotic repertoires that challenges patriarchal constructions of womanhood. She will be presenting the preliminary findings of her research with her UROP mentor, Professor Lisa Walker, at the 9th annual Louisiana Studies Conference in September.
