Advancing Women in Academia

On May 14, 2013, the ADVANCE Rising Tide Center at University of Maine is hosting ADVANCING WOMEN IN ACADEMIA, their second annual networking conference featuring activities of interest to women faculty in STEM and SBS fields from colleges and universities across Maine. It will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, 250 Haskell Road in Bangor.

Attend this day-long event aimed at connecting women faculty from higher education institutions across Maine. The schedule features keynote speaker Dr. Jaime Lester of George Mason University, and a poster session that supports informal discussion of research and scholarly projects.  Afternoon workshops will focus on topics relevant to women striving to succeed in academia. Participants will include faculty from each of the University of Maine campuses, and faculty members from Colby College, Bates College, and Bowdoin College, University of New England, Husson University, and Maine’s community colleges.

What is ADVANCE?

"ADVANCE encourages institutions of higher education and the broader  science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) community, including professional societies and other STEM related, not-for-profit organizations, to address various aspects of STEM academic culture and institutional structure that may differentially affect women faculty and academic administrators."
