Night Sky - Women in Science Panel Discussion

Panel discussion on Women & Astronomy followed by planetarium slide show in the dome. 

Panelists are Robert Markey, English Professor from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; and USM professors: Lucinda Cole, Associate Professor of English and Director of the Women and Gender Studies Program; Julie Ziffer, Assistant Professor of Physics; and Chemistry Professor Emerita Nancy Gordon.

Topics to be discussed:

 “Devil Girls and the History of Astronomy” by Lucinda Cole and Robert Markley;  “My Asteroid” by Julie Ziffer;  “Women Scientists Teaching Women Science” by Nancy Gordon. Reception follows the presentation. Admission is free.  Appropriate for all ages. Co-sponsored by USM Advance Grant, the Southworth Planetarium, Women & Gender Studies Program, and the Office of Research Administration & Development. Event held in conjunction with production of Night Sky, a comedic drama by Susan Yankowitz and directed by Assunta Kent, USM Associate Professor of Theatre.
