The Writing Center at Lewiston-Auburn College Campus

Overview

Historically at LAC, there has been a Writing Center with a physical presence, and other peer academic support services available virtually. In an effort to best utilize our space and personnel resources to increase students' awareness of and access to academic support, we have reconfigured the service model in the LAC Library.

Two of the individual office spaces (145D and 145E) located directly behind the main service desk will now be virtual service rooms. These private and comfortable spaces will afford students all the resources needed to access live online appointments with USM's entire array of peer support services, including the following:

  • Writing Assistants and Graduate Writing Assistants
  • Subject-Based Tutors (including Math, Chemistry, Biology, and more)
  • Technology Assistants
  • Peer Academic Coaches
  • Adult Learner Coaches

Whether it be by appointment or a walk-in basis, the team at the Library is there to connect students with peer academic support resources. This includes reviewing the online schedule to see who is available for appointments, getting set up in one of the virtual service rooms, and navigating the many available resources.

Students from all three campuses can access all of the learning support programs and services via the new Learning Commons site in MyUSM. Other access points include the one-click scheduling option on the USM Brightspace landing page, and the "Academic Support Resources" link found in the Course Resources tab of every Brightspace course at USM.
