Remote Service

To connect LAC-based students with all of the academic support available at USM, we considered reliable internet access, a computer, webcame, and headset with a microphone as essential, along with privacy away from the open service areas. Two of the individual office spaces (145D and 145E) located directly behind the main service desk will now be virtual service rooms. These private and comfortable spaces will afford students all the resources needed to access live online appointments with USM's entire array of peer support services, including the following:

  • Writing Assistants and Graduate Writing Assistants
  • Subject-Based Tutors (including Math, Chemistry, Biology, and more)
  • Technology Assistants
  • Peer Academic Coaches
  • Adult Learner Coaches

Whether it be by appointment or a walk-in basis, the team at the Library is there to connect students with peer academic support resources. This includes reviewing the online schedule to see who is available for appointments, getting set up in one of the virtual service rooms, and navigating the many available resources.

While the primary use of these remote service spaces is to access peer acadaemic support, students can also request to use one of these rooms for connecting with others online at USM, such as Zoom meetings with faculty, advisors, financial aid representatives, and peers. Students are encouraged to plan ahead if wanting to use one of these spaces.
