April 16-June 1 Reading, Writing, and Defining: USM Book Arts at Stone House Faculty Exhibition. Reception: Friday, April 27, 6-8 p.m. A select group of artists from around the state come together to teach at USM's Book Arts at Stone House Program. During this one week course students study with 8 different artists who teach them printmaking, poetry, inventive structures, bookbinding, box making, design, and other techniques related to the artist’s book. This is the second faculty exhibition, featuring work in a variety of media, dimensions, and ideas.
June 22-August 3, 2012 Tell Me a Story: A World of Wonders. Second in a series of three exhibitions of work by Maine artists who have illustrated children's books, A World of Wonders features work by 10 artists who have illustrated children's books focused on science-related themes. The books cover a range of topics including marine life, insect ecology, plant and animal habitat, geology, science history, and river ecology.
September 7 - October 30, 2012 Maine's Woods: Observations by Bert Lincoln Call and Henry David Thoreau. Bronze Sculpture by Forest Hart.
The exhibition features 35 large-format black and white photographs taken by Bert Lincoln Call during the early 1900s accompanied by quotes from Henry David Thoreau’s The Maine Woods. The images reveal an exploration of Maine’s natural and human landscape that was then, and continues to be, in rapid transition. The exhibitis touring under the auspices of the Dexter Historical Society.
The installation will include sculpture by Forest Hart, who specializes in realistic bronzes of wildlife. His work is included in museums, educational institutions, public gardens, parks, zoos and private collections around the country.
November 9 - December 14, 2012 The Figure Revealed IV
The Figure Revealed is our state-wide open juried exhibition of work in all media done in the environment of a life drawing group. Primarily drawings, the exhibition will also include paintings, prints, and work in clay, plaster, wire, and other sculptural media.
