Robert “Bob” Small is a psychologist and Director of Counseling Services at the University of Southern Maine. He has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School, a Masters in Counseling from USM and a Bachelor degree in psychology from University of Maine at Orono. He has been at USM since 2006. Prior to this he worked as a mental health clinician with children, families and adults and was the Clinical Director of a psychiatric hospital and also Clinical Director of a large mental health and educational organization. Bob has spent many years developing programs and mentoring and training mental health clinicians in a variety of settings. Bob has been a teacher throughout his career.
Bob has been a part-time faculty member at USM since 2007. He has taught adolescent development, abnormal psychology, and counseling and interviewing in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Program, diagnosis and treatment planning in the masters in Counseling Program and currently teaches College Mental Health in the masters in Adult and Higher Education Program. Bob enjoys joining with and engaging students in their learning in a classroom setting.
Bob has many passions. His family is on top of the list. He and Deb Small have been married since 1977 and they have three wonderful adult children, and one special grandchild. Bob lives in small town Maine where he built his own house and spent years doing community service. He spends his free time traveling, sailing and playing music. Bob enjoys experiencing other cultures, a fresh breeze in his sails, and song in his heart.
