The Vocal Physical Connection in Singing explores necessary vs. unnecessary tensions in balanced phonation for vocal performance stagecraft, and will feature performances by Osher School of Music voice students. They will be exploring managing common vocal inhibitions including tensions of the neck and shoulders, tongue and jaw, the diaphragmatic region affecting breath pressure, the hips/ lower body, structural displacement affecting the stability and alignment of the laryngeal mechanism and more!

Tina and Phil Burns own and operate Burns Music Studio in Orono where they and their staff offer lessons in piano, voice, saxophone, guitar, drums, repertory/acting and professional performance coaching. In addition to his studio teaching, Phil music directs at Maine’s northern most professional theatre, Penobscot Theatre Company, and is on piano faculty at the University of Maine School of Performing Arts.

In addition to her studio teaching Tina is the resident vocal coach with Penobscot Theatre Company and maintains an active schedule of professional production coachings. Her work on John Mellencamp and Stephen King’s national tour of their musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County gave her the opportunity to coach acclaimed artists, Carlene Carter, Gina Gershon and Billy Burke along with network television’s Peter Albright and acclaimed musician/song writers Kate Ferber, Jake LaBotz and Gwen Hughes.

In addition to her pre-professional and higher education preparations with students, Tina has also coached national Broadway touring artist, Jarius Cliett, currently in The Book of Mormon, worked with Broadway’s original ‘Mrs. Corry’ (Mary Poppins), Janelle Robinson, and Waitress’s ‘Earl’, Joe Tippett. Most recently Tina vocal coached a sold out run of A Day in the Life: A Beatles Experience alongside Phil as music director/George Martin and their son Harry as ‘Ringo’ at the esteemed Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
