When and where is Commencement?

Virtual Commencement 2021 will be held on Saturday, May 8th, 2021.  A link will be provided prior to the ceremony.

Will there be events to celebrate the Class of 2021?

Yes! We are working on various ways, within health & safety guidelines to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates.

Do I need a ticket to participate in or attend Commencement?

Yes! Per the Cross Insurance Arena's policy, every single person attending the ceremony is required to have a ticket.

How do I request tickets?

This information can be found on our Commencement Ticket Reservation page. Please note that tickets for the 2020 Commencement ceremony will not be made available for request until early March 2020. Tickets are required for all faculity and staff participating in or volunteering at Commencement, and for those who wish to attend the ceremony as a guest. Tickets can be reserved and printed online starting in March 2020. There are a few ways for faculty to request tickets.

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Faculty and staff who want to volunteer at Commencement will be able to sign up soon. Please note for many of the volunteer assignments, there is a mandatory training required during the day on Friday, May 8th. We appreciate your help!

What time do I need to arrive at Commencement?

Faculty and staff who are volunteering should arrive at the Cross Insurance Arena no later than 7:00 AM. Student Robing Area Assistants should be in place from 7:30am until 9:30am. Faculty marching in the ceremony are requested to arrive by 8:15 AM.

Where do faculty and staff order regalia?

Faculty and staff wearing regalia should order through the this webform.  Your order will be placed by the University Store.

What should I bring?

All faculty and staff will need a ticket, which is required for entry, and if applicable, regalia if you are bringing your own or have already picked it up from the University Store. Large bags and backpacks will not be allowed into the arena and there is no storage for personal items during the ceremony. If you are unsure of what to bring, please check out the Cross Insurance Arena's list of prohibited items.

Where can I park?

Free parking for faculty and staff will be available in the J.B. Brown lot at 66 Danforth St. in Portland. Due to limited space on the J.B. Brown lot at 66 Danforth Street, faculty and staff are encouraged to park in the USM parking garage on the Portland campus. Shuttle buses will run continuously between the Woodbury Campus Center and the Cross Insurance Arena beginning at 7:15 AM and again after the ceremony ends.The shuttle service to and from the J.B. Brown lot to the Cross Insurance Arena begins at 7:30 AM.
