Dr. Randall joined the University of Southern Maine School of Nursing in 2003 and received tenure in 2011. She earned a PhD in Nursing from the University of Victoria, Canada in 2005 with a focus in nursing education. Clinical experience includes: ICU/CCU, psych mental health, and home care. She has taught in numerous academic settings across the US and BC, Canada. As a scholar and a teacher, Dr. Randall has addressed concerns regarding LGBTQ inequities within nursing education along with inclusion of feminist theory and intersectionality of diversity in her teaching.

The development of learning strategies that engage students in exploring issues that influence one’s assumptions and perspective has been central to her teaching. Dr. Randall uses interactive learning activities to engage students in exploring who they bring to practice (mask making); playing musical chairs to facilitate the deconstruction and understanding of power, rules, and exclusion; and explores the concept of perspective through the use of the parable “The Blind Men and the Elephant.”

Her current scholarship focuses on preparing teachers to address common teaching challenges–Critical Incident Video Project (CIVP). This project has morphed into a longitudinal study that will extend into 2023.
