Owen earned his Bachelor’s in History from Hunter College in 2011 with an emphasis on 19th and 20th century European and American Labor History and the history of the modern Middle East. He is currently completing his Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Southern Maine (USM). Between receiving his BA and starting his MS Owen worked in a wide variety of settings including leadership roles in local and statewide electoral campaigns, as well as leading several small businesses during times of rapid growth and development.

Owen believes strongly in the innate capacity and capabilities of all people to manage and succeed in their own lives and make incredible contributions to our world. He believes that these capacities are released when individuals become unstuck from the heuristics which are no longer serving them. These heuristics can be intellectual, emotional, physical or social, and are a necessary part of succeeding in an overwhelming world but can eventually become ossified and constrain further development. He is particularly interested in how this paradigm intersects with the challenges of internet use disorders, the growth of sectarianism in America, and young men’s current mental health crisis.
