Amanda Roswick

“DownBeat Award-Winning jazz vocalist and New England native Amanda Roswick received her BM in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire before moving cross-country to pursue an MM in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. During her time at UNC, she participated in master classes with renowned vocalists Carmen Bradford and Karrin Allyson, worked as a Teaching Assistant for the School of Music, and performed with the DownBeat Award-Winning Vocal Lab Ensemble. With the group, she performed with the legendary vocalist Bobby McFerrin and Gimme 5, opened for Take 6 at the 2019 UNC Jazz Fest, and performed several outreach events for surrounding schools. Amanda’s notable teachers include Julia Dollison and Kerry Marsh of Vertical Voices, Brennan Baglio of Groove for Thought, and body mapping experts Melissa Malde and Jenni Cook. Possessing a strong classical background, she brings a unique approach to vocal jazz education that largely focuses on body mapping and vocal health techniques.

Other notable performances include the UNH Chamber Singers’ two concerts with Josh Groban at the Wang Theatre in Boston, MA as well as the Vratislava Sacra Competition held in Wroclaw, Poland. Also at UNH, Amanda sang on two albums coordinated by Pierre de la Rue scholar and choral conductor William Kempster, featuring music that had not been publicly performed since the 16th century.

Amanda’s recent projects have included a significant amount of performing and recording, research, and writing/arranging. She has recorded several vocal jazz demos for composer/arranger Eric Hagmann, and appears on Julie Koenig’s 2024 EP Intruder, as well as on Kerry Marsh’s arrangement of Slaughter’s “Fly to the Angels” for Kari Wahlgren’s 2021 album SlaughtHER. Recently, Amanda presented her research entitled “Gender and American Structuralism: a Study of Jazz Historiography” at the 2022 Jazz Education Network Conference and hopes to publish an article on the issue. While teaching and performing in the New England area, Amanda plans to start publishing her own vocal jazz arrangements in the near future.”
