USM to Begin Offering an EdS in School Psychology

USM initiated its specialist-level training program in school psychology in 1989 and has successfully prepared over 200 students for professional credentialing as school psychologists. The program aims to prepare highly qualified school psychologists to provide comprehensive school psychology services that help all children succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally

Eligibility for credentialing as a school psychologist, both in Maine and nationally, requires specialist-level training, which is defined as a 60+ credit graduate degree program inclusive of structured practicum and internship experiences. Effective Fall 2025, USM will be conferring the degree of Educational Specialist (EdS) in School Psychology to its graduates. This new degree designation reflects the extensive training that our specialist-level students receive.
