Our graduates have pursued careers in ASL/English interpreting and Deaf education. You’ll also be prepared for roles in rehabilitation, healthcare, social work, counseling, and the media.
Licensure and certification
As a graduate, you’ll be eligible to apply for state licensure as a nationally certified ASL/English interpreter.
Hands-on community experience
Collaborate with faculty on projects such as the annual Maine Deaf Film Festival, a state-wide program providing sighted guides to deaf/blind people. You’ll also have opportunities for real-world experience under the supervision of certified interpreters.
Innovative program model
Our unique Interpreter Training Program (ITP) offers instruction from esteemed interpreters, educators, and sign language researchers. As advocates of teaming models, we have pioneered the integration of Deaf Interpreters into the field, welcoming Deaf and hearing interpreting students of all levels since 1999.
Program requirements
Our curriculum provides students with the academic preparation needed for the two-step national credentialing exam to become certified ASL/English interpreters. Through immersive programming and hands-on learning, our students are integrated with the Deaf community within and beyond the classroom.
National accreditation
Our program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE).

Scholarship opportunities
