Internationally Trained Professionals Bring Your Talents to Maine
University of Southern Maine Libraries & Learning and the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Community Impact present a panel of internationally trained professionals. Moderated by Nadine Bravo, world language teacher and USM’s 2023 Student Commencement Speaker, a panel of current students and alumni–Anna Garanenko (Psychology, Studio Arts), Joelle Mikobi (Business), and Marzia Saidi (Computer Science)–will discuss their experiences as professionals, immigrants, and University students.
After the panel, artist Sofia Aldinio will lead a collage workshop for attendees to reflect on their educational journeys and future plans. Sofia Aldinio is an Argentine-American documentary photographer and multimedia storyteller based in Portland, whose documentary work focuses on amplifying stories of immigrants and refugees arriving in the Northeast of the United States.
Free and open to the public. April 16, 2024, 5:30-8:00 PM, University Events Room, 7th Floor, Glickman Family Library, Portland, ME. Art supplies, materials, and refreshments will be provided.
A limited number of participant stipends are available to support the transportation needs and work or care responsibilities of first- and second-generation immigrants. Living and Learning in Maine: New Mainers Creating a Home is a creative workshop series about print culture, history, immigration, and the arts, hosted by University of Southern Maine Libraries & Learning with support from the California Rare Book School, Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, and the Kate Cheney Chappell ’83 Center for Book Arts.
