Living & Learning in Maine: Artist Book Workshop with Annie-Lee Zimerle
University of Southern Maine Libraries & Learning and the Kate Cheney Chappel ‘83 Center for Book Arts present an artist book workshop with Annie Lee-Zimerle for immigrants and New Americans in our local community. Participants will learn easy ways of making and illustrating handmade books. Space is limited!
“Some people talk, perform, or write stories; I adopted the forms of book arts to tell visual stories. I am excited to introduce community members to the genre of book arts — how a simple form of an artist’s book can be a tool to gather stories and to share information,” says Annie Lee-Zimerle, Program Director of the Kate Cheney Chappell Center for Book Arts at University of Southern Maine. Annie Lee-Zimerle (born in South Korea) is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in printmaking, painting and drawing. Her work is often narrative based and a reflection of her thoughts on domesticity and the mundaneness of culture.
April 24, 2024, 5:00-7:30 PM, University Events Room, 7th Floor, Glickman Family Library, Portland, ME. Art supplies, materials, and refreshments will be provided. Registration is required for this workshop and space is limited.
A limited number of participant stipends are available to support the transportation needs and work or care responsibilities of first- and second-generation immigrants. Language interpretation is available by request. See registration form for details or email Jill at jill.piekut@maine.edu. Please register at https://forms.gle/BFyqpvxfwNLD44j69.
