Shaw Innovation Fellowship Online Information Session (Zoom)
Wednesday February 22, 2023 (12:00 – 1:00 PM): Come learn about the Shaw Innovation Fellowship and the process for applicants and faculty mentors. This information session is held on Zoom.
We are now accepting applications for the third cohort of Shaw Innovation Fellows. Upper-level undergraduate and graduate USM students are invited to apply by March 10, 2023.
More about the Shaw Innovation Fellowship:
The purpose of the Shaw Innovation Fellowship Program is to support students passionate about elevating their educational experience through research driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, and exploration to solve problems. The program seeks proposals that demonstrate impact in solving human, environmental, economic, and societal problems of the 21st century and beyond. Both graduate students and upper level undergraduates may apply. The Shaw Fellowship Program aligns well with the year-long thesis/capstone training in various curricula. USM graduate students are encouraged to apply. Upper level, enrolled undergraduates who are working with a faculty advisor may also apply. Applicants need to have taken class at USM for at least one semester in order to establish a working relationship with a faculty mentor.
Fellows participate in a year-long (May through April) series of collaborative programming to develop and execute their projects. Mentorship is a key component of the Shaw Innovation Fellowship program. Students will be connected to faculty, business leaders, and practitioners in the community to establish meaningful mentorships that link academic research to their chosen field. Shaw Fellows also provide mentorship to undergraduate students in the USM Promise Scholars program. Fellows present the resulting project/research at the USM Thinking Matters Symposium hosted each spring.
