Research Interests

Professor Guvench's recent research interests are focused on:

  • MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems), their design for Sensor applications.
  • Coupled MEMS Resonators and their COMSOL modeling.
  • Printed and Flexible Electronics for photovoltaics and wearable sensor applications.

Professor Guvench received his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from METU, Ankara in 1968 and 1970, respectively. He did further graduate work at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio between 1970 and 1975 and received MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics. He is currently a Full Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern Maine. Prior to joining USM, he served on the faculties of METU, Ankara and Gaziantep campuses in Turkey (1975-1980) and at the University of Pittsburgh (1980-1989). He served as Electrical Engineering Department chair at METU Gaziantep (1979-80) and at USM (1998-99). He also served as chairman (and vice-chair) of IEEE Electron Devices Society, Maine Chapter (1998-2001).

Professor Guvench’s teaching and research interests and publications span the field of microelectronics including analog CMOS and bipolar integrated circuit design, semiconductor device technology and its application in biomedical and sensor development, finite element and analytical modeling of semiconductor devices and sensors, electronic instrumentation and measurement, and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS).

Professor Guvench received R&D funding and awards from various government agencies and private companies including the National Science Foundation, NIH, MSGC, SAPPI Paper, NASA, General Motors, National Semiconductor, NATO, University of Pittsburgh and USM.

Professor Guvench is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (iMAPS) and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
