Specialist Drew Bunick has been with USM Public Safety since 2017. Specialist Bunick grew up in Massachusetts before going to Westfield State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. While attending university, Specialist Bunick worked for the University of Massachusetts Amherst Police Department as a Police Cadet. 

In the summer of 2013, Specialist Bunick completed training to become certified as a Reserve Police Officer and worked for the Wells, Maine Police Department. While remaining a reserve officer for Wells and eventually Berwick Police Department, Specialist Bunick became a Deputy Judicial Marshal for the Portland District Court.

After being hired by USM Public Safety, Specialist Bunick went to the Maine Criminal Justice Academy to complete to Basic Law Enforcement Training Program in August of 2017. In July of 2020, Specialist Bunick was promoted to Police Specialist / Investigator. In December of 2021, Specialist Bunick completed the University of Maine at Augusta’s Community Policing Certificate program.

Specialist Bunick has the responsibilities of Civil Rights Officer, Crime Scene Investigations, Court Officer, and Evidence Management Officer. Specialist Bunick is a Police Training Officer, an Active Attacker Civilian Instructor, a Stop the Bleed Instructor, an Aerosol Irritant Instructor, and a Community Policing Instructor. Specialist Bunick has certification and specialty in the investigation of Cyber Crimes. 

Additionally, in 2019, he did training to become certified to teach civilian active attacker training along with Comm Ofc Giampetro. In 2021 they co-created a de-escalation training. The two now offer both trainings to groups on campus.

Specialist Bunick is a designated Civil Rights Officer by the Attorney General’s office.
