Mike Bendzela’s short collection of essays, Notes From Above Ground, won the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance Nonfiction Chapbook Series contest and will be published late in 2025. His collection Metazoan Variations: Evolutionary Fables and Other Emblematic Tales, won The Raw Art Review / UnCollected Press Full Length Book of Short Stories Contest and was published in November 2020. His short work has appeared in several North American periodicals and anthologies, and he won a Pushcart Prize in 1993. He is a monthly columnist for the website 3 Quarks Daily. He lives with his husband on a small orchard and farm in Standish.
