Kate Mitchell has taught English at the University of Southern Maine for the past twenty-one years, ENG 100 College Writing, ENG 102 Academic Writing, ENG 104 Enriched College Writing, ENG 120 Introduction to Literature, ENG 201 Creative Writing, and ENG 103 A Modular Approach to the Writing Process. She has also assessed the prior learning of students for college credit at USM, assisted in the creation and development of a clearinghouse and the first Office for Prior Learning Assessment in the University of Maine System. She also is a credentialed Associate Pastor, has taught ESOL at the State University of New York at Buffalo and Albany, as well as USM, edited and authored teaching materials in English and Spanish for an educational publishing company, has taught University Seminar and Academic Studies at USM and UNE, and Senior English at Catherine McCauley, Cape Elizabeth, and Attica (NY) high schools. She has owned her own store in Portland’s Old Port, directed the Portland Intown Business Association, and founded the Maine School for Intensive English Studies and Lifelines, Inc., for which she documents and produces life stories. She is a member of Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance.
