Barbara obtained her BS in Social Work from Barrington College, Rhode Island in 1984. She obtained her MSW from Simmons School of Social Work in 1986. She has been a practicing social worker ever since. She has focused her practice on children and families, having been a part of a sexual abuse treatment team at Community Counseling (now Maine Behavioral Health) and then as a social worker for 25 years. Her private practice is centered around trauma, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and first responders. She has had the opportunity to provide training on the impact of trauma on first responders, healing from trauma, grief, crisis debriefing, and trauma-focused practice. She has been an affiliate of Health Affiliates Maine for the past 10 years and has taught as an adjunct with Southern Maine Community College in the Behavioral Health Department as well as an USM part-time faculty in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department.

She grew up in New Jersey and moved to Auburn, Maine to go to high school. She settled back in Portland after graduate school and has stayed in the area ever since. Currently, she lives in Gray, Maine and loves this central location to the state. She enjoys children and has raised five of her own, and enjoys the company of her six grandchildren, including 1-year-old twins. She has two active dogs which need a lot of attention and that keeps her moving. She is passionate about Zumba, reading, hockey/lacrosse and jigsaw puzzles. She continues to work on her spiritual growth. She is passionate about teaching and empowering youth to find their strengths and to continue to grow.
