Hanna Flewelling has had a diverse career as a music educator, conductor, and graphic designer. She currently serves as the music director for the Portland Young Peoples’ String Consort at the USM Osher School of Music and runs her own graphic design business HFlewDesign.

As a designer, Hanna specializes in editorial and print. She was the Design Director for Portland Monthly Magazine from June 2022 through September 2023, and has remained the Editor and Principal Designer for the Maine Music Educators Association (MMEA) since 2019.

Before transitioning into graphic design, Hanna spent almost a decade in the music classroom as an instrumental music educator. She began at RSU14: Windham/Raymond as the Orchestral Music Director for the district and later as the Instrumental Music Director for Windham High School. Under her leadership, the orchestral program grew from 50 students in grades 5–12 to over 200 and added new staff at each school. In recognition of her work in Windham, Hanna was nominated for and awarded “New Music Teacher of the Year” in May 2018 by the Maine Music Educators Association. She later served as a music teacher at Thornton Academy, leading the three school orchestras, concert band, jazz band, songwriting, and guitar classes.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, with a focus on both violin and saxophone, from the University of Southern Maine, and a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting, also earned from the University of Southern Maine under the direction of Dr. Robert Lehmann.
