Michael Gould-Wartofsky, PhD

Dr. Michael Gould-Wartofsky earned his BA at Harvard College and his MPhil and PhD at New York University. He was the inaugural post-doctoral scholar at Columbia University’s Work and Labor Lab, and has previously taught in the sociology departments at Rutgers and NYU. His work is situated at the nexus of political, economic, and urban sociology, where his areas of interest include class and labor, race and ethnicity, immigration, states, and social movements in contemporary and historical perspective. He is a publicly engaged sociologist:  in addition to Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, he is a Labor Educator at USM’s Scontras Center for Labor and Community Education. In his spare time, he is an avid photographer, an amateur musician, and a committed advocate for social justice.
