Sophie Flood is a freelance French horn player that maintains an active performing and teaching schedule throughout New England. As an orchestral musician, she holds the position of 4th horn with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and is a longtime substitute player with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with regional orchestras around New England, including Symphony New Hampshire, Symphony by the Sea, Lexington Philharmonic, and the Colby Symphony Orchestra. She has been an orchestra fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival, a guest musician with the Bowdoin International Music Festival, New Hampshire Music Festival, and spent a summer touring Quebec with the Montreal-based Orchestre de la Francophonie. Below the stage, Sophie can be found performing in pit orchestras for Portland and Maine State Ballet productions, Opera Maine, and for musicals at the Ogunquit Playhouse, Maine State Music Theatre, and North Shore Music Theatre. As a versatile chamber musician, Sophie is a member of the Portland Brass Quintet, Norumbega Brass Quintet, Portland Winds, and is a founding member of the Casco Bay Horn Quartet. 

Sophie has been involved in music at the University of Southern Maine since 2000. She attended summer band camps and was a member of both the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from USM, she continued being an active presence in the university community by coaching youth ensemble sectionals, performing as a ringer in university ensembles, and teaching at the Southern Maine Junior Music Academy. She maintains an active private studio where many of her students have participated in these same programs as well as district and All-State festivals. 

Sophie received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern Maine and an Artist Diploma from The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario. Her primary instructors include John Boden and Neil Deland. Outside of music, she enjoys making bogeys and being out on the water. Sophie and her family live in Portland.
