Jeremy Qualls

Dr. Jeremy Qualls currently serves as Dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health (CSTH), and is a Professor of Physics. As Dean, Dr. Qualls leads fourteen academic programs as well as many cross-interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial programs. Since arriving in Maine in 2018, Dr. Qualls has fostered extensive growth and innovation within the college. This growth has been bolstered by new collaborations with local businesses and generous support from private donors. USM’s research infrastructure and STEM pipeline programs are transforming to provide cutting edge experience and opportunities.

Some of the new programs and infrastructure Dr. Qualls has helped bring into CSTH include; the Composite Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL), The Michael E. Dubyak Center for Digital Science and Innovation, Advanced Products Innovation and Science (APIS), STEM summer camps, and the Boyne Family Advanced Simulation Center. Concentrating on academic excellence, scholarship, and entrepreneurship for the Southern Maine region, CSTH is quickly redefining what was once thought possible.

As a physicist and material scientist, Dr. Qualls has pioneered work on novel electronic ground states and interdisciplinary pedagogy. His work has led to numerous publications and major grant funded research projects. He is currently active in product development and prototyping.
