  • MA, Latin American Literature, Purdue University, 1989

Prof. VanBrugh completed her B.A. in Spanish at the University of Maine, in Orono, ME, including a semester abroad in Seville, Spain, and her M.A. in Latin American Literature with a concentration in Women Writers at Purdue University in Indiana. She presented several scholarly papers on these topics at professional conferences during this time. After Purdue, she spent a year at the Universidad de Costa Rica, in San Jose, C. R. on a scholarship from the Rotary Club.  While there, she sang with the Coro Sinfonico Nacional and was chosen to take part in a national tour.  Returning to the United States, she attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, completing her Ph.D. coursework and exams.  She is currently ABD.

Prof. VanBrugh has taught a wide variety of populations, including short-term teaching positions at Colby, Bates, and UM, as well as a pre-school group, but finds that teaching at USM on an adjunct basis is a perfect fit for her current role as single parent to two young children, allowing her to teach students about the language and culture she loves while keeping her schedule free for her domestic commitments and the traveling she loves.   She has been at USM for over 5 years and hopes to continue for many more.
